HP LaserJet 6L, 1100, 1200, and 3200 Series Printers - Microsoft(R) Windows XP Installation Instructions for HP and Microsoft Drivers

Choose a solution

HP LaserJet 6L, 1100, 1200, and 3200 series printer owners have many choices for driver support in the Microsoft(R) Windows XP operating system. In addition to the driver developed by HP, the drivers that ship with the Windows XP operating system represent a joint effort between Microsoft and HP for providing enhanced printing support with in-box PostScript (R) and PCL drivers.

HP solution - HP worked to provide drivers for support in the Windows XP operating systems. These are PCL drivers that provide full functionality for the printer’s capabilities and have been certified for use in Windows XP. Due to licensing restrictions and size, the entire software for HP LaserJet products with copying, scanning, and faxing functionality will not be available from the Web. A print-only solution will be available for download. The CDs for the 1200, 1220 and 3200 series printers were rolled with drivers certified for Windows XP and are currently available from HP Distribution.

NOTE: An HP LaserJet Communication Patch for Windows XP is available for download on the Web for the 1200, 1220 and 3200 to fix install or upgrade issues. Click here for more information about the Communication Patch for these printers .

XP solution - HP also worked closely with Microsoft to add functionality to the in-box XP drivers, based on the unidriver and PostScript driver architectures. Updates to these drivers, providing additional functionality, are available through the Windows Update feature of Windows XP. Although HP worked to provide comparable functionality with the Windows XP drivers, some features may not be available via the in-box driver.

The following lists the features that will not be supported with these drivers:

  • Quicksets

  • Scanning and Copying (1100A, 1220, and 3200 series only)

  • Faxing (3200 series only)
