The instructions in this document describe how to print Self-Test or Configuration pages on HP LaserJet printers.Self-Test or Configuration pages typically contain information regarding the printer’s installed paper trays and options, memory, error logs, installed personalities and options, network protocols, etcetera. This document lists printer models that range from the HP LaserJet 4 series to current models.

NOTE: This document will not be updated to include newer products. This information is available in the inbox documentation/CD that ships with each HP product. If your product is not listed in this document then check the User Guide for your product.

HP LaserJet 5, HP LaserJet 5m, HP LaserJet 5n, and HP LaserJet 5se printer

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button until Test Menu appears.

  2. Press ITEM until Print Self-Test appears.

  3. Press SELECT.

    The Self-Test page will print with a menu map.

HP LaserJet 5si series printer and HP LaserJet 5si Mopier

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button repeatedly until the display reads TEST MENU.

  2. Press ITEMS repeatedly until the display reads PCL CONFIGURATION PAGE.

  3. Press SELECT *.

    The control panel display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION PAGE and the test page will print.

HP LaserJet 6p and HP LaserJet 6mp printers

Briefly press the GO and the JOB CANCEL buttons at the same time when the printer is in a Ready state (Ready front light on).

The PCL Self-Test page will print.

HP LaserJet 1300 series printers

Demo page

The demo page contains text, graphics, and general specifications of the printer. It can be used as a quick test of the hardware functionality.

When the printer is in the Ready state (ready light on), press and release the GO button to print a demo page.

Configuration page

The configuration page lists current settings and properties of the printer. It also contains a status log report. The Configuration report may be printed from the printer, the embedded Web server, or the HP toolbox.

When the printer is in the Ready state, press the GO button for about five seconds, until the Attention light turns on, and then release the button.

  1. Select Start , Programs or All Programs , Hewlett-Packard , HP LaserJet 1160 or HP LaserJet 1320 , and choose HP Toolbox .

  2. Click the Status tab to print the configuration page.

  1. In a supported Web browser, type the IP address or hostname for the printer.

  2. Click the Information tab to print the Configuration page.

HP LaserJet 2100 series printer

  1. Ensure that the printer is in the Ready state.

  2. Press and release the GO and JOB CANCEL buttons simultaneously on the printer control panel. The Self-Test page will print.

HP LaserJet 2200 series printer

Self-test, Configuration, and HP Jetdirect page

Simultaneously press and release the GO and JOB CANCEL buttons when the printer is in the Ready state. The Self-Test/Configuration page and HP Jetdirect page (if an HP Jetdirect card is installed) will print.

Continuous self-test

  1. Turn the printer power off.

  2. Press and hold the GO button while turning on the printer.

  3. Continue to hold the GObutton until the Attention and Ready lights turn on.

  4. Release the GO button. The Ready light blinks indicating the device is in continuous self-test mode.

  5. The Self-Test page will continue to print until the JOB CANCEL button is pressed.

HP LaserJet 2300 series printers

Configuration page

Use the configuration page to view current printer settings, to help troubleshoot printer problems, or to verify installation of optional accessories, such as memory (dual inline memory modules, or DIMMs), trays, and printer languages.

The content of the configuration page varies, depending on the options currently installed in the printer.

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect print server is installed, an HP Jetdirect configuration page prints as well. The Internet Protocol (IP) address of the HP Jetdirect print server appears on this page.

Use the following steps to print a configuration page at the printer control panel.

  1. Press (Select) to open the menus.

  2. Use (Up button) or (Down button) to scroll to INFORMATION, and then press (Select).

  3. Use (Up button) or (Down button) to scroll to PRINT CONFIGURATION, and then press (Select).

HP LaserJet 2400 series printer

NOTE: If you have an HP Jetdirect print server installed, a second page prints that lists all of the HP Jetdirect information. The IP address of the HP Jetdirect print server appears on this page.
  1. Press (SELECT) to open the menus.
  2. Use (UP button) or (DOWN button) to scroll to INFORMATION and then press (SELECT ).
  3. Use (UP button) or (DOWN button) to scroll to PRINT CONFIGURATION and then press (SELECT ).

HP LaserJet 3015, 3020, 3030, and 3380 series printers

Print configuration page from the control panel

  1. Press menu/enter .

  2. Use the < or the > button to select Reports , and then press menu/enter .

  3. Use the < or the > button to select Config report , and then press menu/enter .

  4. The printer exits the menu settings and prints the report.

Print configuration page from HP Toolbox

  1. Open the Toolbox Utility using one of the following methods.

    • Double-click the HP Toolbox icon on the Microsoft Windows desktop.
    • Double-click the Status Client icon in the system tray located at the far right of the taskbar.
    • Click Start , Programs or All Programs , Hewlett-Packard , HP LaserJet xxxx Product , and then hp toolbox and fax management for the hp LaserJet xxxx product.
  2. Click the Status tab.

  3. Click the Print Info Pages button.

  4. Click the Print button next to the report to be printed.

HP LaserJet 3100 and 3150 series printers

  1. Press the ENTER/MENU button.

  2. Use the < and > keys on the printer’s control panel to select Reports, then press ENTER/MENU.

  3. Use the < and > keys to select Self Test, then press ENTER/MENU.

    The HP LaserJet 3100 product exits the Menu settings and prints the report.

HP LaserJet 3200 series printer

Demo Page

  1. Press the ENTER/MENU button when the printer is in the Ready state.
  2. Press the < or > button until the display reads REPORTS .
  3. Press the ENTER/MENU button.
  4. The display should read DEMO PAGE .
  5. Press the ENTER/MENU button to print the demo page.

Configuration Report

  1. Press the ENTER/MENU button.
  2. Press the < or > button until the display reads REPORTS .
  3. Press the ENTER/MENU button.
  4. Press the < or > button until the display reads CONFIGURATION REPORT .
  5. Press the ENTER/MENU button.
NOTE: Two pages will print. The first page shows the printer configuration and the second page shows the fax settings.

  1. Press the MENU/ENTER button.

  2. Use the < or > button to select REPORTS and press MENU/ENTER.

  3. Use the < or > button to select CONFIG REPORT and press MENU/ENTER.

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button until INFORMATION MENU appears.

  2. Press ITEM until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

    The display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION and the Configuration page will print.

HP LaserJet 4050 series printer

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button until INFORMATION MENU appears.

  2. Press ITEM until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

    The display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION and the Configuration page will print.

HP LaserJet 4100 series printer

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect print server card is installed (HP LaserJet 4100n, 4100tn, and 4100Dtn printers), an HP Jetdirect Configuration page will print out as well.

To print a Configuration page at the control panel:

  1. Press Menu until INFORMATION MENU appears.

  2. Press Item until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.

  3. Press Select to print the page. Note the number of pages since last maintenance.

The next page contains an example of the Configuration page. The content of the Configuration page varies depending on the options currently installed in the printer.

NOTE: Configuration information is also available from the embedded web server. For details, see the "Embedded Web Server" section in the User's Guide .

HP LaserJet 4100mfp series printer

  1. Press the MENU button.

  2. Press the Down Arrow button until Information is highlighted.

  3. Press the Right Arrow button.

  4. Press the Down Arrow button to highlight the Print Configuration .

  5. Press the SELECT button, the blue button with the checkmark on it.
    NOTE: The Configuration page will list the printer IP address and also the gateways. The gateways are listed on the first page under Installed Personalities and Options. The IP address is on the second page, the HP Jetdirect page, under TCP/IP.
  6. Place the Configuration page into the ADF face up. Press the green START button to copy the Configuration page.

  7. Check the copy to verify the scanner is calibrated correctly. If the copy is not centered, manually calibrate the scanner.

HP LaserJet 4200 and 4300 series printers

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect print server is installed, an HP Jetdirect Configuration page prints as well. HP LaserJet 4200n/tn/dtn/dtns/dtnsL and 4300n/tn/dtn/dtns/dtnsL printers come with an HP Jetdirect printer server installed. The embedded Web server also provides configuration information. See the printer User's Guide for information about the embedded Web server.
  1. Press (Select) to open the menus.

  2. Use (Up Arrow) or (Down Arrow) to scroll to INFORMATION, and then press (Select).

  3. Use (Up Arrow) or (Down Arrow) to scroll to PRINT CONFIGURATION, and then press (Select).

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect print server EIO card is installed, a Jetdirect Configuration page is also printed.

Follow these steps to print a Configuration page:

  1. Press MENU until Information Menu appears.

  2. Press ITEM until Print Configuration appears.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

HP LaserJet 8000 series printer and HP LaserJet Mopier 240

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button repeatedly until INFORMATION MENU appears.

  2. Press ITEM repeatedly until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

    The display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION and the Configuration page will print.

HP LaserJet 8100 series printer and HP LaserJet 320 Mopier

  1. Press the printer’s MENU button repeatedly until INFORMATION MENU appears.

  2. Press ITEM repeatedly until PRINT CONFIGURATION appears.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

    The printer’s display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION and the Configuration page will print.

HP LaserJet 8150 series printer

NOTE: If an HP Jetdirect EIO card is installed, a Jetdirect Configuration page will print out as well.
  1. Make sure the printer is on and the Ready message is displayed.
  2. Press MENU until the display reads Information Menu .
  3. Press ITEM until the display reads Print Configuration .
  4. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.
  5. The Configuration page shows the printer’s current configuration.

HP LaserJet 9000 series printer

To print a Configuration page on an HP LaserJet 9000 from the printer control panel; there are two ways to do this:

  1. Press 2, then 2 again (22) for quick keys, the Configuration page will print out.

    Or

  2. Do the following:

    1. Press (Select) to enter the menu system.

    2. Press (Down Arrow) to the Information Menu.

    3. Press (Select).

    4. Press (Down Arrow) to Print Configuration.

    5. Press (Select).

To print a Configuration Page from the HP LaserJet 9000 MFP touch screen display do the following:

  1. Touch MENU

  2. Touch INFORMATION MENU .

  3. Touch PRINT CONFIGURATION .

  1. Press the number 2 on the control panel.
  2. Press the number 2 a second time on the control panel to print the Configuration page.

  1. Press the Menu button.
  2. Touch INFORMATION .
  3. Touch PRINT CONFIGURATION PAGE .

  1. Press (Mode Button) on the control panel twice to access the Print Screen

    .
  2. Touch Menus .

  3. Touch Information .

  4. Touch Print Configuration .

  5. When pages exit the MFP press (Mode Button) to return to the main screen.

Print the Configuration page from the print controller

  1. Press the Menu key on the front of the EFI Fiery print controller, once, to go into the Functions Menu .
  2. Select the line selection button that corresponds with Print Pages .
  3. Once in the Print Pages menu, select the line selection button that corresponds with Configuration Page . The current Configuration Page will print.

Print the Configuration Page from Command Workstation

  1. Choose Print Pages from the Server menu in the Command WorkStation .

  2. Click Configuration .

  3. Click Print .

HP Color LaserJet 5 series printer

  1. If the printer is online, select the ON LINE key to take the printer offline (the On Line indicator goes out).

  2. Press the MENU key repeatedly until PCL TEST MENU or PS TEST MENU * appears on the first line of the Printer's display panel.

    NOTE: The prefix "PCL" or "PS" depends on whether HP-PCL or PostScript (PS) has been selected as the current "system personality". For example, if you want to print a PS self-test but the printer is currently set to PCL, you need to change the printer's personality to PostScript. To do this, you would press the MENU key until PCL CONFIG MENU shows on the first line of the display panel. SYS=PCL or AUTO will appear on the second line. At this point, press the + key once to change to PS and then choose ENTER. Finally, press the ON LINE key and the printer will reset to the PS personality.
  3. PCL SELF TEST or PS SELF TEST should automatically appear on the second line.

  4. Select the ENTER key to print the Self-Test page. 06 PRINTING PS TEST or 06 PRINTING PCL TEST appears briefly and, after about 10 seconds, the page prints.

  5. Press the ON LINE button to put the printer back online (the On Line indicator goes on). 00 PCL READY or 00 PS READY appears in the display window.

    NOTE: Other tests that are available under the TEST menus include CONT SELF TEST, PCL or PS TYPEFACE LIST, PCL or PS DEMO PAGE, and DEVELOPER TEST.
    NOTE: If you selected CONT SELF TEST, press ON LINE to exit the test and return the printer online or select RESET to stop the test and remain offline. Continuous Self-Test will print in monochrome (Black) only. * This item is only available if the optional PostScript SIMM is installed.

HP Color LaserJet 2500, and 2550 series printers

Simultaneously press and release the (Go) and (Cancel Job) buttons on the control panel to print a Configuration page and Supplies Status page at the printer.

HP Color LaserJet 3500, 3550, and 3700 Series Printers

  1. Press MENU to enter the MENUS .

  2. Press (Down arrow) to highlight INFORMATION .

  3. Press (Select) to select INFORMATION .

  4. Press (Down arrow) to highlight PRINT CONFIGURATION .

  5. Press (Select) to select PRINT CONFIGURATION .

  6. The message Printing... CONFIGURATION appears on the display until the printer finishes printing the configuration page. The printer returns to the Ready state after printing the configuration page.

NOTE: The printer will only print one Configuration unless the TEST button is pressed on an external Jetdirect print server. The HP Jetdirect External Print Server en3700 comes standard with the HP Color LaserJet 3500n.

HP Color LaserJet 4500 and 4550 series printers

  1. On the printer control panel, press the MENU button repeatedly until INFORMATION MENU displays.

  2. Press ITEM repeatedly until PRINT CONFIGURATION displays.

  3. Press SELECT to print the Configuration page.

    The display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION PAGE while the Configuration page prints, then the printer will return to the READY state.

  2. Press to highlight INFORMATION .

  3. Press to select INFORMATION .

  4. Press to highlight PRINT CONFIGURATION .

  6. The message Printing... CONFIGURATION appears on the display until the printer finishes printing the configuration page. The printer returns to the Ready state after printing the configuration page.

  1. Press (Select) to enter the MENUS.

  2. Press (Down button) to highlight INFORMATION.

  3. Press (Select) to select INFORMATION.

  4. Press (Down button) to highlight PRINT CONFIGURATION.

  5. Press (Select) to select PRINT CONFIGURATION.

The message PRINTING...CONFIGURATION appears on the display until the printer finishes printing the Configuration page. The printer returns to the READY state after printing the Configuration page.

NOTE: If the printer is configured with EIO cards (for example, an HP Jetdirect print server) or an optional hard disk drive, an additional Configuration page will print that provides information about those devices.

  1. Press the MENU button repeatedly until INFORMATION MENU appears on the printer control panel display.

  2. Press ITEM repeatedly until PRINT CONFIG PAGE appears on the display.

  3. Press SELECT to print the page.

    The display will read PRINTING CONFIGURATION PAGE while the Configuration page prints, then the printer will return to the READY state.

  1. Press (Select) to enter the MENUS.

  2. Press (Down button) to highlight INFORMATION.

  3. Press (Select) to select INFORMATION.

  4. Press (Down button) to highlight PRINT CONFIGURATION.

  5. Press (Select) to select PRINT CONFIGURATION.

The message PRINTING...CONFIGURATION appears on the display until the printer finishes printing the Configuration page. The printer returns to the READY state after printing the Configuration page.

Print the Configuration page from the print controller

  1. Press the Menu key on the front of the EFI Fiery print controller, once, to go into the Functions Menu .
  2. Select the line selection button that corresponds with Print Pages .
  3. Once in the Print Pages menu, select the line selection button that corresponds with Configuration Page . The current Configuration Page will print.

Print the Configuration Page from Command Workstation

  1. Choose Print Pages from the Server menu in the Command WorkStation .

  2. Click Configuration .

  3. Click Print .

HP LaserJet P2030 Series Printer

Configuration page

The Configuration page lists current settings and properties of the printer. It also contains a status log report. To print a configuration page, do one of the following:

  1. Press and hold the Go button for 5 seconds when the printer Ready light is on and no other jobs are printing.

  2. Select it from the Print Information Pages drop-down list on the Services tab in Printer Preferences .

Config report

The config report prints the current product configuration. To print a config report:

  1. Press OK .

  2. Press the down arrow to select Reports , and then press OK .

  3. Press the down arrow to select the required report, and then press OK to print.

Configuration page

Prints the current product configuration. If an HP Jetdirect print server is installed, an HP Jetdirect configuration page also prints. To print a configuration page:

  1. Press Menu .

  2. Press the down arrow to highlight INFORMATION , and then press OK .

  3. Press the down arrow to highlight the required page, and then press OK to print.

Configuration page

The configuration page shows the current settings and product properties. To print this page:

  1. On the product control panel, press Setup .

  2. Use the arrow buttons to select Reports , and then press OK .

  3. Use the arrow buttons to select Configuration report , and then press OK .

NOTE: A second page also prints (fax models only). On that page, the Fax Settings section provides details about the product fax settings.

Print configuration page from the printer

Use the control panel to print information pages that give details about the product and its current settings.

  1. Press OK to open the menus.

  2. Press the Left arrow ( ) or Right arrow ( ) button to navigate to Reports, and then press OK .

  3. Press the Left arrow ( ) or Right arrow ( ) button to navigate through the reports, and then press OK to print a report.

  4. Press X to exit the menus.

Print configuration page from the HP Toolbox

Open HP ToolboxFX in one of these ways:

  • In the Windows system tray, double-click the HP ToolboxFX icon ( ).

  • On the Windows Start menu, click Programs (or All Programs in Windows XP and Vista), click HP , click HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series , and then click HP ToolboxFX .

NOTE: HP ToolboxFX contains the Status folder that contains links to print the Configuration page and other information pages.

Configuration page

The configuration page shows the current settings and product properties. To print this page:

  1. On the product control panel, press Setup .

  1. Press the Menu button.

  2. Press the down arrow to highlight the INFORMATION menu, and then press the OK button.

  3. Press the down arrow to highlight the required information, and then press the OK button to print.
