HP Photosmart 7200 and 7400 Series Printers - Print Cartridge Configuration: Ink Backup Printing Mode

Introduction

Ink Backup mode is the ability of the HP Photosmart 7200 and 7400 series printers to provide reasonable quality output when a cartridge runs out of ink, is defective, or fails altogether. Ink Backup mode is initiated only after one of the ink cartridge is removed. The printer will exit Ink Backup mode when two functioning ink cartridges are installed.

Cartridges configuration

The HP Photosmart 7200 and 7400 series printers can operate using several different print cartridge configurations. These configurations will impact print quality as detailed in the table below:

Provides six-ink, grain-free photos that are resistant to fading when HP Premium Plus Photo Paper is used
Printing quality is affected by Print Quality settings and type of media.
