HP LaserJet 1320 Series Printer - Automatic Two-Sided Printing (duplex) in Microsoft Windows Operating Systems

Automatic two-sided printing is standard for the HP LaserJet 1320 series printer; however, the duplex unit must be enabled in the print driver properties located on the Configure tab in Microsoft Windows 98 or ME or in the Device Settings in Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP.

Enable duplex printing (Microsoft Windows 98 and ME

Complete the following to enable duplex printing when the printer is installed on computers running Microsoft Windows 98 or ME operating systems.

  1. Click Start , Settings , Printers from the Microsoft Windows desktop.

  2. Right-click the appropriate print driver icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu.

  3. Click the Configure tab and select the appropriate printer model (HP LaserJet 1320, 1320t, 1320n, 1320tn, or 1320nw).

  4. Place a checkmark next to Duplex Unit and Allow Manual Duplexing under the Paper Handling field.

  5. Choose the appropriate Optional Paper Source , if applicable.

  6. Click Apply .

  7. Close the print driver Windows.

Enable duplex printing (Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP

Complete the following to enable duplex printing when the printer is installed on computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP operating systems.

  1. Open the printers folder.

    • Microsoft Windows 2000 : Click Start , Settings , Printers from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
    • Microsoft Windows XP : Click Start , Printers and Faxes from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
  2. Right-click the appropriate print driver icon and select Properties from the drop-down menu.

  3. Click the Device Settings tab.

  4. Select the following settings under the Installable Options heading.

    • Select Installed from the drop-down menu next to Duplex Unit (for 2-sided printing) .
    • Select Enabled from the drop-down menu next to Allow Manual Duplexing .
  5. Click Apply and then OK .

  6. Close the print driver Windows.

Print on both sides (manual duplex) instructions

Perform the following steps to automatically print on both sides of the paper (HP LaserJet 1320 series printer only):

  1. Make sure the straight-through output door is closed.

  2. Adjust the media size selector, if appropriate.
    Automatic two-sided printing supports A4, letter, and legal paper. Depending on the media size, you might have to adjust the automatic two-sided printing media-size selector to the appropriate size. Push in the media-size selector for letter/legal-size media. Pull out the media-size selector for A4-size media.

  3. Enable duplex printing in the print driver.

  4. Select the Duplex option on the Finishing tab through the application.

    1. Select File , Print from the menu bar of the application.
    2. Select Properties (Microsoft Windows 98 or ME) or Printing Preferences (Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP).
    3. Click the Finishing tab.
    4. Place a check mark next to Print on Both Sides and click OK .
  5. Print the document.
