HP Fax 1040 and 1050 Series - Faxing Overview
This is a basic overview on sending and receiving faxes with the HP Fax 1040 and 1050 series.
Sending a fax
Send a fax one of two ways:
Scan and fax
Scan & Fax Mode causes the HP Fax to scan all the pages of the fax into memory before starting to send. This is useful for situations where the fax you are calling is busy and needs to be redialed.
Receiving a fax
How faxes are received depends on the answer mode. The answer mode setting determines how the incoming call will be answered.
Review the answer mode selections below to determine what setting will work best, then press Answer Mode on the control panel until the light displays under the desired option.
TAM/FAX answer mode
Select this setting to use the integrated telephone answering machine (TAM). Receive both voice and fax calls with voice calls going to the answering machine if unable to take the call.
The TAM will answer the telephone, fax tones will automatically be detected, and the fax will be received.
If you answer the telephone and hear fax tones, either press Start/Enter or just wait on the line. Once fax tones are heard from both machines, hang up the telephone.
AUTO answer mode
In AUTO mode the telephone rings for a certain number of rings, then switches to FAX receiving.
NOTE: The internal TAM will not work in this mode.
TEL answer mode
Select this setting to answer all calls as a telephone. After 12 rings, the TAM will answer the call to allow use of the remote access for operating the fax machine.
