HP LaserJet 1320 Series Printer - Setting Up Paper Input Tray Size and Type in Microsoft Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, and XP Systems

Configure the printer

The paper input tray size and type must be configured using the HP LaserJet Toolbox when using the printer with computers running Microsoft Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, or XP operating systems. This will let the printer know what size and type of media is loaded in each paper input tray. Perform the following to configure the tray paper size and type:
NOTE: The following example configures input tray 2 for plain, legal-size paper.
  1. Double-click the HP LaserJet Toolbox icon or click Start , All Programs (Microsoft Windows XP) or Programs (Microsoft Windows 98SE, ME, or 2000), Hewlett-Packard , hp LaserJet 1160, 1320 series , and then hp LaserJet Toolbox from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
  2. When the HP LaserJet Toolbox opens, click Device Settings located in the upper right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Click Paper Handling in the left menu.
  4. Select Legal from the drop-down menu for Tray 2 size.
  5. Select Any from the drop-down menu for Tray 2 type.
    NOTE: Make applicable changes to Tray 1 or Tray 3, if needed. If the default paper size is to be Legal, Select Default paper size and select Legal from the drop-down menu.
  6. Scroll down and click Apply and then click OK to save the changes.

  7. Verify that the change has been made.
    1. From the printer control panel, press and hold the green GO button until the orange Attention light flashes, approximately five seconds, and then release the button.
    2. Locate the Paper Options section on the Self Test / Configuration Page.
    3. The tray settings under the Paper Options heading should read:
      • Tray 2 Size = Legal
      • Tray 2 Type = Any

Configure the PCL6 print driver

Perform the following to inform the HP LaserJet PCL6 print driver of the HP LaserJet 1320 tray configuration.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP

  1. Click Start , Settings , Printers from the Microsoft Windows 2000 desktop or Start , Printers and Faxes from the Microsoft Windows XP desktop.
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 1320 PCL6 icon or listing and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Device Settings tab.
  4. Select Legal from the drop-down menu under Form to Tray Assignment, Tray 2 .
  5. Click Apply , if applicable, and then click OK .

Microsoft Windows 98SE and ME

  1. Click , , from the Microsoft Windows desktop.
  2. Right-click the HP LaserJet 1320 PCL6 icon or listing and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Configure tab.
  4. Select the appropriate printer model from the drop-down menu under Printer Model . For example, if the printer model is an HP LaserJet 1320tn, select the hp LaserJet 1320tn from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select HP 250-Sheet Paper Tray from the drop-down menu under Optional Paper Sources .
  6. Click Apply , if applicable, and then click OK .

Test the configuration

Perform the following to test the configuration:
  1. Open a new Microsoft Word document.
  2. Type "This is a test" using Legal paper from Tray 2.
  3. Click File , Page Setup , and then Paper tab.
  4. Select Legal from the drop-down menu under Paper Size .
  5. Click OK to return to the Microsoft Word document.
  6. Click File , Print , and then OK .
