Solution

Please perform the following steps:

  1. Ensure there is no paper jammed in the media path.

  2. Open the Top Cover and look for any small pieces of media that may be stuck in the printer.

  3. Remove the Rear Feeder/Duplexer and check for media particles. Remove any paper stuck in the media path.

  4. Close the Top Cover and then turn off the printer.

  5. Wait for two minutes and then turn on the printer.

  6. Check the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor by following the steps below:

    1. Open the Top Cover of the printer and remove the Rear Feeder/Duplexer.

    2. Insert a piece of paper into the rear of the printer. The paper must be loaded just above the large Pick Roller. Please see Figure 1.

      Figure 1: Rear paper feed

    3. Slide the paper all the way into the printer. The leading edge of the paper will stop at the Paper Drive Roller.

    4. Locate the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor on the right side of the paper path. It can be seen from the top of the printer with the Top Cover open and has red, black, and blue wires attached to it. Please see Figure 2.

      Figure 2: Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor

    5. Turn off the printer and press down on the paper sensor to make sure it is snapped into proper position.

    6. Turn on the printer.

    7. Slide the leading edge of the paper back and forth so that the paper sensor flag on the Paper Sensor/OOPs sensor can be seen moving. Please see Figure 3.

      Figure 3: Paper sensor flag

    8. If the Paper Sensor Flag is moving as the leading edge of the paper moves past the flag, turn the printer back on and see if the error is resolved.

    9. If the Paper Sensor Flag is not moving, remove the paper, and gently press on the paper sensor flag with a small object, such as a pen cap. Do not use the tip of a pencil or a pen as this could damage the printer.

    10. Repeat step g to see if the flag is moving.

    11. If the false paper jam persists, the printer will need to be repaired at an HP repair facility. Click here to contact HP at http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html .
