HP Compaq dx6100 Microtower PC - Computer Beeps 3 or 4 times and Does not Boot


Processor is not seated correctly and Power supply is overloaded.

  1. Check to see that the processor is seated correctly.

  2. Open the hood and ensure the power supply cable is seated into the connector on the system board.

  3. Check if a device is causing the problem by removing ALL attached devices (such as hard, diskette, or optical drives, and expansion cards).

  4. Turn on the system. If the system enters the POST, then power off and replace one device at a time and repeat this procedure until failure occurs.

  5. Replace the device that is causing the failure.

  6. Continue adding devices one at a time to ensure all devices are functioning properly.

  7. If the above steps are done with no results, replace the power supply and the system board.

NOTE: Make sure that the unit is disconnected from the power source when the above steps are performed.
