Opening the PC Case in HP Pavilion Slimline s3000 and Compaq Presario S3000 Desktop PCs

This document only pertains to HP Pavilion desktop PCs with the following PC case:

Before you begin

  • Turn off the computer, disconnect all cables and transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor. Be sure to disconnect the modem cable before disconnecting the power cord.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
WARNING: The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
CAUTION: This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the right side panel

To access most components, remove the right side panel.

WARNING: Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1. With all cables disconnected from the computer, detach the three screws that connect the right side panel to the rear of the case.
Step 2. Slide the cover back, and pull it toward the back of the computer.
Step 3. Lift the right side panel off the case.

Replacing the right side panel

The right side panel has four hooks on the top edge, four tabs on the front cover, and 5 tabs on the bottom edge.
The four hooks fit into the four slots on the top of the case.
The four tabs on the front leading edge fit into a lip on the case.
The five tabs on the bottom edge fit under a lip on the bottom of the computer.
Step 2. Align the tabs on the panel into the slots in the case.
Step 3. From the back of the computer, push the panel forward until the front leading edge is locked into place.
Step 4. Replace the three screws to secure the right side panel to the computer.
