Mandatory BIOS Change on nc6000 Notebooks

Notebook may produce a blank display or severe video corruption on the LCD panel only. External Video does not exhibit this.


Compaq nc6000 notebooks using BIOS versions prior to F.0E.


The above issues has been identified to be due to process variations in the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 the Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) to the internal panel may fall outside of current video BIOS control settings.

This issue has been corrected with a new System BIOS that adjusts the current video BIOS control settings to prevent blank display or severe video corruption on the LCD panel due to variations in the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 process.

To correct the above issues, down load and install BIOS version F.0E (SP27726) or later.

NOTE: The above Softpaq(s) is the solution at the time of this document; it may not be the most recent. HP recommends having the latest updates installed. These updates can be verified and downloaded from


  • We recommend that customers proactively update to the new BIOS or later.
  • Customers who are in the process of rolling out nc6000 notebooks and have standardized on a previous version of the BIOS, will need to ensure that all notebooks received after April 28th, receive the new BIOS.
  • We recommend that customers who have completed rollout of nc6000 notebooks also proactively update to the new BIOS to ensure that notebooks returned from a service event do not experience this issue.
