HP Laserjet P1005, P1006, P1505, and P1505n Printers - Definitions of Printing Preferences in Windows

Introduction

This document defines the settings in each tab of the Printing Preferences dialog box installed on the print driver.

Definitions of Printing Preferences in Windows

You can open the Printing Preferences dialog box by clicking File, Print, and then Preferences.

Advanced

Paper/Output

Setting
Definition
Collate (dimmed by default)
NOTE: If printing more than 1 copy of a multi-page document, the collate option becomes available
Collates the pages of a multi-page document into sets Pages will print 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 instead of 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3
Copy (default is 1)
Specifies number of copies to be printed

Printer Features

Setting
Definition
Print All Text as Black (disabled by default)
All contents of the document, regardless of color, print in black
REt (Resolution Enhancement technology) (enabled by default)
Helps produce a faithful reproduction of an image

Print Task Quick Sets

Prints documents using default print settings

Prints documents in Booklet Layout (landscape) with 2 pages per sheet

Paper Options

Setting
Definition
Size Is drop-down list (Letter is the default)
Lists the paper sizes the product can print on
Custom
The place to name the custom size and specify the dimensions of non-standard-size media
Use Different Paper/Covers (disabled by default)
Allows the cover page of a document to be a different paper type than the paper used for the remainder of the document
Source Is
Options in the Source Is drop-down list:
  • Auto Select (default)

  • Manual Feed

  • Tray 1

Specifies paper source
Type Is (Plain Paper is the default)
Options in Type Is drop-down list:
Specifies the type of paper to print on
Mirror Printing (disabled by default)
Reverses the text or image as if reflected in a mirror
Show important instructions for printing on short media (enabled by default)
Displays important instructions on the computer when short media is loaded

Print Quality

Setting
Definition
Print-quality settings in the drop-down list:
  • FastRes 600 (default)

  • FastRes 1200

Sets the dpi (dots per inch) FastRes 1200 produces a sharper image than FastRes 600
EconoMode (disabled by default)
Might save ink in the print cartridges

Resizing Option

Setting

Actual Size (default)
Prints the contents of a document at actual size
Print Document On drop-down list
Lists the media sizes the product can print on
% of Normal Size
Prints text or images at a specified % of normal size

Watermarks

Setting
Definition
Settings in the Watermarks drop-down list:
  • None (default)

  • Confidential

  • Draft

  • Sample

Prints the selected watermark on every page of the document, unless First Page Only is selected
First Page Only (disabled by default)
Prints the watermark only on the first page of the document
Edit…
Used for editing existing watermarks, or creating your own

Document Options

Setting

Print On Both Sides (Manually) (disabled by default)
  • Flip Pages Up (available when printing on both sides): Prints so the document can be bound at the top of the page

  • Booklet Printing (available when printing on both sides): Prints so the document can be bound at the side of the page

NOTE: Odd pages print first and must be manually reloaded in the in tray for printing even-numbered pages
Pages per Sheet
Settings in the drop-down list:
  • 1 page per sheet (default)

  • 2 pages per sheet

  • 4 pages per sheet

  • 6 pages per sheet

  • 9 pages per sheet

  • 16 pages per sheet

Prints 1 or more pages per sheet of paper
Print Page Borders (available if printing more than 1 page per sheet)
Prints borders around multiple pages printed on a single sheet of paper
Page Order (available if printing more than 1 page per sheet)
Specifies the page order when more than one page is printed on a single sheet of paper

Orientation

Settings
Definition
Portrait (default)
Prints pages in tall orientation
Landscape
Prints pages in wide orientation
Rotate by 180 degrees
Rotates text and images 180 degrees on the page, while the media remains in the orientation selected

A place to view purchase options, which might include the following options:
  • Check availability, compare prices and purchase from HP or from participating online retailers

  • Print a personal shopping list

  • Find a local store or obtain a telephone number to place an order (purchase options vary by country)

Print Information Pages

Settings in the drop-down list

Shows basic printing specifications and a picture of the product
Config Page
Shows configuration settings such as firmware version, date and time, and name of product
Supplies Status Page
Shows color bars, toner levels, and might include part numbers for toner cartridges
