HP LaserJet M3027, M3035, M4345, M5025 and M5035 MFP Product Series - Digital Sending Image File Formats

What is it?

HP MFPs and Digital Senders provide several features to allow scanning of documents to digital format and sending these documents to specific recipients or locations (digital sending). For example, HP MFPs and Digital Senders provide Scan to Email and Scan to Folder.

Users who use digital sending, for example scan to email, can modify the scan settings of the resulting scanned document. By selecting More Options from the control panel of the device from within a specific feature, users can make changes to the following scan settings:

Document File Type
  • PDF (Adobe® Portable Document Format)

  • JPEG (Image File Format with built-in compression – effective for scanning photographs, results in one file per page scanned)

  • TIFF (Tagged Image File Format – effective for B&W and Color scanning – used by most OCR applications, results in one file per page scanned)

  • MTIFF (Multi-page Tagged Image File Format – same as TIFF except that using MTIFF results in a single file for multiple pages scanned)

Output Quality
  • High (large file)

  • Medium

  • Low (small file)

Color/Black
  • Color Scan

  • Black/White Scan

Resolution
  • 75 PPI (pixels per inch)

  • 150 PPI

  • 200 PPI

  • 300 PPI

  • 600 PPI¹

¹ Not available for the Scan to Email feature

Optimize Text/Picture
  • Manually Adjust (The default setting is for mixed documents – documents that contain both text and graphics. This setting can be manually adjusted to correspond to the original document from all text to all photo.)

  • Text (best for scanning all text documents)

  • Printed Picture (best for scanning color photographs)

The resolution setting applies to all available file formats. For example, the user can select any resolution from 75 to 600 Pixels-per-inch with PDF, Color, with Optimize Text/Picture set to Printed Picture. Note that 600 PPI is not available for the Scan to Email feature.

Output Quality The Output Quality setting also applies to all available file formats. For example, the user can select High, Medium, or Low output quality with MTIFF, B&W, and Optimize Text/Picture set to Text.
NOTE: The Output Quality setting controls JPEG and G4 compression. The compression setting used is dynamically determined depending on image content.
