HP xw4600 Workstation - Removing and Replacing the Power Supply

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the power supply for the HP xw4600 Workstation.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the power supply that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Power supply removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
    NOTE: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them.
  2. Power down the workstation and remove the power cord from the electrical outlet.

  3. Remove the access panel. Click here for instructions on removing the access panel .

  4. Disconnect the power cables from all of the drives and the system board, noting their location for reinstallation.

  5. Remove the four Torx-15 screws that secure the power supply to the back of the chassis.

  6. Slide the power supply away from the back of the chassis.

  7. Lift the power supply and remove it from the chassis.

Power supply replacement

  1. Place the power supply into the chassis.

  2. Slide the power supply into place against the back of the chassis.

  3. Replace the four Torx-15 screws that secure the power supply to the back of the chassis.

  4. Connect the power cables to the drives and system board.
