HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor PC - Removing and Replacing the Power Supply


This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Power Supply for the HP Compaq dc5800 Small Form Factor PC.


Minimum skill level

The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.


Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Power Supply that is being replaced. If a part is listed as 'Yes' under 'Requires Return' then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

NOTE: For customers in countries/regions with RoHS legislation* (e.g. EU, China, etc.) restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical equipment. The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your unit contains a part that is labeled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. If your unit contains a part that is labeled with the Original Spare number, please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Power Supply removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the access panel. Click here for instructions to remove the Access Panel .

  3. Rotate the drive cage to the up position.

  4. Rotate the power supply to the up position.

  5. Remove the power cables from the cable clips under the drive cage and on the chassis pan.

  6. Disconnect the power cables from all of the drives and the system board, noting their location for reinstallation.

  7. Rotate the power supply slightly inward and then pull forward to move the guide pins out of the curved channels in the mounting bracket into the vertical channels.

  8. Lift the power supply up and out of the mounting bracket.

Power Supply replacement

  1. Position the power supply with the guide pins over the channels in the mounting bracket.

  2. Slide the power supply down and then back toward the rear of the chassis until the guide pins enter the curved channel.

  3. Connect all power cables to the drives and system board.

  4. Replace the power cables into the cable clips on the chassis pan and under the drive cage.

  5. Rotate the power supply to the down position.

  6. Rotate the drive cage to the down position.
