HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Memory Module

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the memory module for the HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the memory module that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Memory module removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
    NOTE: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them.
  2. Shut down the Notebook. If you are unsure whether the Notebook is off or in Hibernation, turn the Notebook on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

  3. Disconnect all external devices connected to the Notebook.

  4. Disconnect the power from the Notebook by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the Notebook.

  5. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on removing the battery .

  6. Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on removing the keyboard .

  7. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory board to the spring tension position.

    CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  8. Grasp the memory board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.

  9. Place the memory board in a static dissipative bag.

Memory module replacement

  1. Remove the memory board from the static dissipative bag.

  2. Locate the alignment slot and align it to the empty board receptacle.

  3. Grasp the memory board by the edges and push gently to replace it.

    CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  4. Press the memory board down to latch the arms.

  5. Replace the keyboard. Click here for instructions on replacing the keyboard .
