HP ProLiant 100-series G5 servers configured with Intel Celeron and Xeon multi-core processors and with the Intel Platform Environment Control Interface (PECI) feature may display lower than normal CPU Domain and Ambient System Temperature sensor readings. For example, the following lower than normal readings (under "Current Reading" below) may be displayed on the Lights-Out 100 (LO100) web user interface or the System BIOS IPMI hardware health information:

The lower than normal sensor readings displayed in Lights-Out 100 and the System BIOS IPMI hardware health information tool are inaccurate and can be safely ignored. The following is an example of normal sensor readings for the CPU Domain and Ambient temperatures:

  • ProLiant DL160 G5p server - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (8 Dec 2010)
  • ProLiant DL165 G5 server - System ROM Version 2010.02.26 (17 May 2010)
  • ProLiant DL165 G5p server - System ROM Version 2009.07.31 (19 Oct 2009)
  • ProLiant DL180 G5 server - System ROM Version 2009.07.06 (17 Aug 2009)
  • ProLiant DL185 G5 server - System ROM Version 2010.02.26 (17 May 2010)
  • ProLiant ML110 G5 server - System ROM Version 2009.07.15 (30 Jul 2009)
  • ProLiant ML115 G5 server - System ROM Version 2009.07.15 (30 Jul 2009)
  • ProLiant ML150 G5 server - System ROM Version 2009.01.15 (17 Mar 2009)

RESOLUTION

To ensure the correct temperature is displayed in Lights-Out 100 (LO100) and the IPMI tool, upgrade to the latest HP ProLiant 100-series G5 server System ROM as follows:

  • ProLiant DL120 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (13 Dec 2010) or later
  • ProLiant DL160 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.11.17 (9 Mar 2011) or later
  • ProLiant DL160 G5p server series - System ROM Version 2011.03.18 (14 Apr 2011) or later
  • ProLiant DL165 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2012.05.21 (15 Aug 2012) or later
  • ProLiant DL165 G5p server series - System ROM Version 2009.11.24 (11 Dec 2009) or later
  • ProLiant DL180 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (8 Dec 2010) or later
  • ProLiant DL185 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2012.05.21 (15 Aug 2012) or later
  • ProLiant ML110 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (13 Dec 2010) or later
  • ProLiant ML115 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (13 Dec 2010) or later
  • ProLiant ML150 G5 server series - System ROM Version 2010.10.25 (8 Dec 2010) or later

Perform the following steps to obtain the latest System ROM:

  1. Click on the following link:

    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

  2. Click on Drivers & Software.
  3. Enter a product name (e.g., ProLiant DL120 G5) and click on Search.
  4. Select the specific ProLiant model.
  5. Select the appropriate operating system.
  6. Click on the category BIOS - System ROM.
  7. Locate, download, and install the latest System ROM version.

Then, upgrade the Lights-Out 100 Remote Management Firmware to Version 3.11 (or later):

Perform the following steps to obtain the latest LO100 firmware version:

  1. Click on the following link:

    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

  2. Click on Drivers & Software.
  3. Enter product name "Lights-Out 100" and then click on Search.
  4. Select the appropriate operating system.
  5. Click on the category Firmware - Management.
  6. Locate, download, and install the appropriate Lights-Out 100 Remote Management firmware version for the ProLiant G5 server model.
