HP ProBook 4710s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Hard Disk Drive for the HP ProBook 4710s Notebook PC.

The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

  • Small, Phillips-head (P000, P00 and P1) screwdrivers

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the Hard Disk Drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as 'Yes' under 'Requires Return' then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Hard Disk Drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery, switch cover, keyboard, and palm rest.

  3. Remove the two silver 3mm P000 Phillips-head screws from the left side of the hard disk drive bracket.

  4. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw on the right side of the hard disk drive bracket.

  5. Use the black Mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive away from the hard disk drive connector on the system board.

  6. Remove the hard disk drive from the hard disk drive bay.

  7. Place the hard disk drive in an electrostatic dissipating bag.

Hard Disk Drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the electrostatic dissipating bag.

  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay and align with hard disk drive connector on the system board.

  3. Use the black Mylar tab located on the hard disk drive enclosure to slide the hard disk drive securely onto the system board connector.

  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw on the right side of the hard disk drive bracket.

  5. Replace the two silver 3mm P000 Phillips-head screws on the left side of the hard disk drive bracket.
