HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)

This document pertains to HP and Compaq Desktop PCs.

This document explains how to reinstall software programs and hardware drivers that were originally installed on the computer at the factory. This document is divided into the following sections:

Software Program Reinstallation : Reinstall factory shipped software programs using the Recovery Manager program.

Hardware Driver Reinstallation : Reinstall factory shipped hardware drivers using the Recovery Manager program.

NOTE: If your computer was configured to order, you may need to reinstall certain software programs using their installation discs.

Software Program Reinstallation

Use the following steps to reinstall factory shipped software programs:

  1. Click Start , All Programs , Recovery Manager , and then click Recovery Manager again.

  2. Click Software Program Reinstallation .

  3. On the Software Program Reinstallation welcome screen, click Next .

  4. Select the program to reinstall.

    NOTE: You may be advised to uninstall the software program that was chosen to reinstall.

    If the program to reinstall is not listed, select The program is not in the list , and then click Next . Helpful information will advise you how to uninstall a program.

    If the program is in the list and has already been uninstalled, skip this step. To uninstall a program, perform the following:

    1. Click Start , and then click Control Panel .

    2. Under Programs , click Uninstall a program .

      The Uninstall or change a program window opens.

    3. Select the program you want to remove.

    4. Click Uninstall or Uninstall/Change at the top of the program list.

    5. Read and respond to any messages that may open while the software is being removed from your computer.

    Once the program is uninstalled, resume the reinstallation from the Recovery Manager program.

  5. Click Next .

  6. If the reinstallation was a success, a message about restarting the computer opens. Select Yes , and then click Finish to restart the computer.

Hardware Driver Reinstallation

Use the following steps to recover factory shipped hardware drivers:

  1. Click Start , All Programs , Recovery Manager , and then click Recovery Manager again.

  2. On the Hardware Driver Reinstallation welcome screen, click Next .

  3. Select a driver to reinstall, and then click Next .

    NOTE: If the driver you want to reinstall is not listed, select The driver is not in the list , and then click Next . Helpful information will advise you how to install drivers using the Windows Device Manager. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. The Recovery Manager begins reinstalling the chosen driver. After the driver installation is complete, click Finish to restart the computer.
