HP Color LaserJet 3000, 3600, and 3800 Series Printers - Software Tray Settings

Issue Description

Below are several issues customers may experience when not using standard media types with their printers. In order to avoid the print quality or printing issues, HP has outlined the steps to take, depending on the issue the customer is experiencing, to help solve the issue.

Workarounds

Scuff marks: Please set the paper type to extra heavy or cardstock in the application if available and in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any', extra heavy (if specified in the application/driver), or cardstock (if specified in the application/driver). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application).

Envelope Printing (incorrect orientation): Please set the paper type to envelope in the application if available and in the driver. . In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to envelope. The tray’s paper size also should either be set to envelope or the correct size envelope (Com 10, for example).

Labels (smearing): Please set the paper type to label or rough mode setting in the application if available and in the driver. . In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any', 'label' (if specified in the application/driver) or 'rough' (if specified in the application/driver). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application).

Glossy media (PQ issues): Please set the paper type for glossy in the application if available and in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any' or 'glossy' (if specified in the application/driver). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application).

Cardstock Mode (PQ issues): Please set the paper type for cardstock in the application if available and in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any' or 'cardstock' (if specified in the driver/application). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application).

Envelopes wrinkling: Please set the paper type for envelopes in the application if available and in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any' or 'envelope' (if specified in the driver/application). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application).

Custom sized pages: Please set the paper size to custom size in the application if available and in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to either 'any' or type specified in the driver/application. The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application). When setting the tray to exact dimensions, make sure they match the dimensions specified in the job (driver or application). You may be prompted by the control panel with the size set in the driver if the size is not set via the control panel for the tray. Just accept this setting to continue printing.

Envelopes sealing: Please set the paper type for envelopes in the application if available and in the driver. Please set the Tray type for envelope, and also set the correct size. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to 'envelope' (as specified in the driver/application). The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application). Also check to make sure the envelopes are capable of handling temperatures of 200 deg for 1 second. (I think that is the spec, but will have to double-check).

Envelopes, Custom sized: Please set the paper type for envelopes in the application if available and in the driver. Please set the paper size to custom size in the application if available and in the driver. Also check the "Rotate by 180 degrees" check box located under the Finishing tab in the driver. In order to avoid a load tray message, via the control panel, configure the loaded tray’s paper type to 'envelope' as specified in the driver/application. The tray’s paper size also should either be set to 'any' size or the size specified in the job (driver or application). When setting the tray to exact dimensions, make sure they match the dimensions specified in the job (driver or application). You may be prompted by the control panel with the size set in the driver if the size is not set via the control panel for the tray. Just accept this setting to continue printing.
