HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printers (C410a, C410b, C410c, C410d, C410e) - Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)

Introduction

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.

This document includes the following steps to set up the product:

  • Unpack the product

  • Adjust the control panel display

  • Install the document feeder tray

  • Install the control panel faceplate

  • Connect the power cord and adapter

  • Connect the phone cord

  • Turn on the power

  • Select the language and country/region

  • Install the cartridges

  • Load paper

  • Align the printheads

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.

Step one: Unpack the All-in-One

  1. On the rear of the product, remove the cardboard that secures the two-sided printing accessory (if installed).

  2. Remove the cardboard restraint from the top of the product.

  3. Grasp the access handles on the sides of the product to open the cartridge door.

  4. Remove the blue tape that holds the carriage restraint in place, slide the carriage to the left, and then remove the plastic restraint from the carriage.

  5. Close the cartridge door.

Step two: Adjust the control panel display

Adjust the control panel display, and then remove its protective film.

Step three: Install the document feeder tray

Install the document feeder tray into the automatic document feeder.

Line up the tabs on the edges with the slots in the product. Insert the tabs into the slots until they snap into place.

Step four: Install the control panel faceplate

The control panel faceplate might already be installed. If it is not installed follow these steps.

  1. Position the faceplate over the buttons on the product, and then press down firmly on all the edges of the faceplate until it snaps into place.

  2. Make sure that all buttons are visible and not blocked.

NOTE: If you need to remove the control panel faceplate, pull up on the right edge of the faceplate.

Step five: Connect the power cord and adapter

  1. Connect the adapter to the rear of the product.

  2. Plug the power cord into the power adapter.

  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet.

Step six: Connect the phone cord

Follow these steps if you plan to use the product fax.

Connect one end of the supplied phone cord to the port labeled 1-LINE on the rear of the product, and then connect the other end to a telephone jack.

Step seven: Turn on the power

Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Step eight: Select the language and country/region

  1. If prompted on the control panel display, press the Arrow buttons to select your language, and then press OK to confirm the selection.

  2. Press the Arrow buttons to select your country/region, and then press OK to confirm the selection.

Step nine: Install the cartridges

  1. Grasp the access handles on the sides of the product to open the cartridge door.

  2. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging, and then pull the orange tab straight back to remove the plastic wrap.

  3. Twist the orange cap counterclockwise to snap it off.

  4. Slide the new cartridge into its empty slot until it clicks into place and is seated firmly in the slot. Make sure that you insert the cartridge into the slot that has the same shape icon and color shown on the cartridge.

  5. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks firmly into place.

  6. Repeat these steps to install the other cartridges.

  7. Close the cartridge door.

Step ten: Load paper

Follow these steps to load paper in the product.

  1. Raise the output tray, and then slide the paper width guide outward.

  2. Load a stack of plain white paper into the input tray.

  3. Slide the paper width guide inward until it stops at the edge of the paper.

  4. Lower the output tray, and then pull the tray extender outward as far as it will go. Flip up the paper catch at the end of the tray extender.

Step eleven: Align the printheads

  1. On the control panel, press OK, and then wait while the product prints an alignment page.

  2. After the alignment page prints, press OK. Discard or recycle the alignment page.
