HP ProLiant ML370 G6 Server series - Removing and Replacing Fan (1-4)

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the fan (1-4) for the HP ProLiant ML370 G6 Server series.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

T10/T15 Torx screwdriver (included with the server)

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the fan (1-4) that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Fan (1-4) removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the server unless all bays are populated with either a component or a blank.

    Power down the server.

  3. Do one of the following:

  4. Remove the access panel. Click here for instructions on how to remove access panel .

  5. Remove the air baffle. Click here for instructions on how to remove air baffle .

    NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the fan from the air baffle for this procedure.
  6. Remove the fan cage. Click here for instructions on how to remove fan cage .

  7. Remove the fan by squeezing the two release levers on each side of the fan and lifting out the fan.

Fan (1-4) replacement

  1. Squeeze the two release levers on each side of the fan and push it into the fan cage.

  2. Replace the fan cage. Click here for instructions on how to replace fan cage .

  3. Replace the air baffle. Click here for instructions on how to replace air baffle .

  4. Replace the access panel. Click here for instructions on how to replace access panel .

  5. Do one of the following:
