HP Officejet Pro 8500A (A910) e-All-in-One Printer Series - 'Replace the following depleted ink cartridge' Message Displays on the Product after Installing a New Cartridge

Issue

A 'Replace the following depleted ink cartridge' message, followed by the code for one or more of the cartridges, displays on the product control panel after replacing one or more of the cartridges.

Solution one: Check the ink levels, and then turn the product off and then on again

Use the following steps to check the ink levels in the cartridges, and then turn the product off and back on again.

Step one: Check ink levels

Use the following steps to check the ink levels in the cartridges.

NOTE: Depending on which HP product model you have, the steps for checking the ink levels will differ.
  • If your product is the A910a model, use the following steps to check the ink levels from the product control panel.

    1. Touch the Right Arrow () to scroll through the menu options.

    2. Touch Ink Status. The Ink Gauge menu with gauges for all four ink colors displays.

    3. Touch More to display the Cyan gauge only.

    4. Touch the Right Arrow () to scroll through the individual gauges for each ink color.

    5. Make note of any cartridges that are low on ink.

      NOTE: The correct cartridge model number displays next to the gauge. Refer to this number when ordering a replacement cartridge.
    6. Touch the Return Arrow () twice to return to the home screen.

      • If all of the cartridge ink level gauges indicate that ink is available, proceed to the next step.

      • If one or more of the cartridge ink level gauges indicates that the ink is depleted, proceed to 'Solution two: Replace the cartridges.'

  • If your product is the A910g or A910n model, use the following steps to check the ink levels from the product control panel.

    1. Touch the cartridge icon () in the upper right corner of the control panel display. The Ink Gauge menu with gauges for all four ink colors displays.

    2. Touch More to display the Cyan gauge only.

    3. Touch the Right Arrow () to scroll through the individual gauges for each ink color.

    4. Make note of any cartridges that are low on ink.

      NOTE: The correct cartridge model number displays next to the gauge. Refer to this number when ordering a replacement cartridge.
    5. Touch the Return Arrow () twice to return to the home screen.

      • If all of the cartridge ink level gauges indicate that ink is available, proceed to the next step.

      • If one or more of the cartridge ink level gauges indicates that the ink is depleted, proceed to 'Solution two: Replace the cartridges.'

Step two: Turn the product off and then on again

Use the following steps to turn the product off and then on again.

  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.

  2. Wait 60 seconds.

  3. Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Replace the cartridges

Use the following steps to replace one or more of the cartridges.

NOTE: Replace only the cartridges indicated in the error message.

  1. Open the cartridge access door.

  2. Grasp the cartridge that you are replacing, and then pull it firmly toward you to remove it from the product.

    NOTE: Remove the cartridges one at a time if you are replacing more than one cartridge.

  3. Remove the new cartridge from its packaging.

    NOTE: After you remove a cartridge from its package, install it right away to avoid damaging the ink.
  4. Hold the cartridge by its sides with the nozzle toward the product, and then insert the cartridge into its color-coded slot.

  5. Gently push the cartridge forward into the slot until it snaps into place.

  6. Repeat these steps for the other cartridges, if necessary.

  7. Close the cartridge door.
