Compaq Mini 102 - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the Compaq Mini 102.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • Small, Phillips-head (P000, P0 and P1) screwdrivers

  • Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery .

  3. Remove the memory board. Click here for instructions on how to remove the memory board .

  4. Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard .

  5. Remove the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive bracket to the notebook.

  6. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the notebook.

  7. Using the mylar tab, pull the hard disk drive to the left to disconnect it from the system board and remove the hard disk drive from the notebook.

  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.

  2. Place the hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay and slide the drive to the right to connect it to the system board.

  3. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the notebook.

  4. Replace the two 3 mm P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the notebook.
