HP ProBook 4525s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Memory Board

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the memory board for the HP ProBook 4525s Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the memory board that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Memory board removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove battery

  3. Remove the switch cover. Click here for instructions on how to remove the switch cover .

  4. Partially or completely remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove the keyboard .

    NOTE: The primary and expansion memory slots are both located under the keyboard. The primary memory slot is located on the bottom and the expansion memory slot is located on top. If an expansion memory board is installed, it must be removed before the primary memory board can be removed.
  5. Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory board to the spring tension position.

  6. Grasp the memory board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.

    CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  7. Place the memory board in an electrostatic dissipative bag.

Memory board replacement

  1. Grasp the memory board by the edges and remove it from the electrostatic dissipative bag.

    CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
  2. Align the notch in the memory board with the key in the memory board slot on the system board.

  3. At an angle, gently insert the memory board into its slot on the system board.

  4. Push the memory board down until you hear the click of the two retention arms.
