HP ProBook 6455b Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP ProBook 6455b Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery .

  3. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive cover to the bottom of the notebook.

  4. Lift the hard disk drive cover and remove it.

  5. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  6. Grasp the Mylar tab that is attached to the hard disk drive bracket and slide the hard disk drive away from the hard disk drive connector on the system board.

  7. Remove the hard disk drive from the primary storage drive bay.

  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.

  2. Toe the hard disk drive into the primary storage drive bay and align it with the system board connector.

  3. Press the hard disk drive into the connector on the system board until it is firmly seated.

  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  5. Toe the hard disk drive cover into the base enclosure and lower it into position.

  6. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws.
