HP Mini 5102 - Removing and Replacing Hard Disk Drive

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the hard disk drive for the HP Mini 5102.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the hard disk drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP .

Hard disk drive removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    CAUTION: Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. NOTE: The video shown depicts a previous notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to the 5102.

    Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove battery .

  3. Remove the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to remove keyboard .

  4. Remove the two 3 mm P00 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  5. Loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  6. Grasp the Mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive away from the connector on the system board.

  7. Lift the hard disk drive out of the hard disk drive bay.

  8. Place the hard disk drive in a static dissipative bag.

Hard disk drive replacement

  1. Remove the hard disk drive from the static dissipative bag.

  2. Place the hard disk drive into the drive bay and align it with the system board connector.

  3. Grasp the Mylar tab and slide the hard disk drive into the connector until it is firmly seated.

  4. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  5. Replace the two 3 mm P00 Phillips-head screws that secure the hard disk drive to the base enclosure.

  6. Replace the keyboard. Click here for instructions on how to replace keyboard .
