HP and Compaq Notebook PCs - Obtain a USB Recovery Key Solution for Specific Mini Notebooks

This document pertains to HP Mini 110-3000, HP Mini 210-1100, and Compaq CQ10-400 series Notebook PCs with Windows 7 or XP preinstalled.

USB Recovery key solution

There are three options for recovering these mini notebook PCs to their original operating system image.

  • Option 1 - Use the Recovery Manager program on the recovery partition on PC.

    For Windows 7, turn on the power switch, press Esc key at boot followed by F11 key for the recovery menu.

    For XP, press F6 key for Roxio BackOnTrack utility.

  • Option 2 - Create a personal set of recovery media.

    For Windows 7 and XP use the HP Recovery Manager to create a recovery image on either a DVD or an 8 GB USB flash drive.

    For XP, use Roxio BackOn Track to create a recovery image.

  • Option 3 - One-time purchase of the recovery kit.

The USB recovery key can only be purchased from the Best2Serve web site. The USB key is larger than normal thumb drive. HP can provide only one USB recovery key per unit.

Purchase a replacement recovery kit online

HP allows you to purchase one copy of a replacement USB or CD/DVD recovery kit at minimal cost. To place an order, you will need the product number, the serial number, the type of processor, the name of the Windows OS that came installed on the PC, and your credit card information.

NOTE: Only selected models will receive an USB recovery kit
Because each recovery disc is designed for a specific series or computer model, the order needs to be placed on Best2Serve website using the product number of the unit.
  1. Open a web browser and go to the Best2Serve Non-HP site Home Page.

  2. Select the Country and Language for ordering the recovery kit.
    NOTE: Not all countries are supported, this document only caters to countries listed on Best2Serve website.
  3. On the main page, go to the HP Recovery Kit tile, and then click Check availability.

  4. In the HP Recovery Kit order page enter the product number of the computer and click Search.

  5. In the select service product page , check that the correct operating system and modela are displayed and click Select this service.

  6. Since you have navigated to the order form for the specific model, you can now enter the required serial number, and then click Add to cart.

  7. Click on Go to Checkout and follow the on-screen instructions to provide shipping and payment information.

The recovery kit will be sent as requested.
