Original Document Release.

The HP Onboard Administrator does not display all of the port mapping that may be present for the HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module when the Onboard Administration(OA) is restarted or failed over to backup the OA after changing or establish a Virtual Connect Manager (VCM) domain IP address.

The issue occurs with the following hardware configuration:

  • A BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure
  • Two Onboard Administrator Modules
  • Two Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Modules
  • One or more ProLiant server blades with a Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet adapter (Mezzanine or Embedded)

AND

Under the following circumstances while using the Command Line Interface (CLI) or the Onboard Administrator GUI.

  1. Establish a Virtual Connect (VC) Domain containing Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Modules (does not have to be a primary module).
  2. Create and assign a profile to a server blade with a Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module.
  3. Using the Virtual Connect Manager (VCM) and any of these circumstances exist:

    - Either assign the IP address for first time to VCM
    - Change the assigned IP address for VCM to a new address
    - Experience a VC failover from the Primary Ethernet Module to a Backup Ethernet Module

  4. Fail-over the primary OA to a backup OA.
  5. Log into the OA using the CLI and run the following command:

    show server port map all

The information returned after the command is entered displays only Port 1 and Port 2 when there should be eight Virtual Connect Flex ports connected:

OR

The OA GUI also displays only two port mapping settings when there should be eight Virtual Connect Flex ports connected:

The following example shows that the Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Modules are functional even when information is incorrectly displayed in the OA:

From the Virtual Connect Manager:

  1. Select the Device Bay from left side of the VCM screen under Hardware.

  2. Select the server that contains the Virtual Connect Flex-1-Ethernet Module in the screen that is displayed as shown below and view the correct connections:

    OR

The network connection settings are also available when viewed in any operating system. The examples below show network connection settings in Windows Server 2003 and in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Network Manager:

Windows Server 2003 network connection settings:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Network Manager:

SCOPE

Any BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure running Onboard Administration Firmware Version 3.56 (or earlier) configured with a Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module.

RESOLUTION

Onboard Administrator Version 3.60 (or later) prevents this issue from reoccurring again in the future. Information and access to the latest Onboard Administrator firmware is available at the following HP Onboard Administrator URL:

http://www.hp.com/go/oa

Note: However, if Virtual Connect Manager had a set IP address and the IP was set up prior to the installation of the OA Firmware 3.60, it is still possible that the issue described above will occur again after the OA Firmware is updated to Version 3.60.

Perform the following actions, if there is a need to address any of the following circumstances:

  • To prevent the issue from occurring
  • To correct the OA display issue once it has occurred
  • When a display issue occurs at the time of the OA firmware update

Perform the following change on a single affected server blade to populate the Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module information after the Onboard Administrator is reset using Virtual Connect Manager:

  1. Unassign the VC profile.
  2. Reassign the VC profile.

After making the change in VCM, the correct number of Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Modules will be displayed in Onboard Administrator using the CLI or the OA GUI.

To confirm that the display issue is corrected, use the following options to view the port mappings:

Log into the OA using the CLI and run the following command:

show server port map all

View the port map:

OR

Using Onboard Administrator, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the Device Bay from the left-hand side of the OA screen.
  2. Select the server that contains the Virtual Connect Flex-10 10Gb Ethernet Module.
  3. Select the Port Mapping option.
  4. Select the tab for Table View.

The OA screen now displays all the port mappings.
