HP ProBook 4730s Notebook PC - Corrupted Profile Error in Windows

When trying to log in to Windows, a "Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted " error message appears.

To fix this error, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on either in safe mode or with a working account that has admin privileges.

  2. Open regedit and go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList . All SIDs of loaded profiles are visible here. There should be two copies of each SID, one with a .bak extension and one without.

CAUTION: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly may cause symptoms requiring a reinstallation of the Windows operating system. Hewlett-Packard is not responsible for issues which may result from incorrect use of the Registry Editor.
  3. To recover the profile to a working version, first delete the SID that does not have the .bak extension. Then remove the .bak extension from the other SID.

    For example:

    (Delete this SID)

    (Rename this SID as SID-1292428093-343818398-2115-158554)

  4. Restart the computer and the profile will be restored.
