Replacing Cartridges for HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3520 e-All-in-One Printer Series

Introduction

This document contains steps for replacing cartridges.

To purchase ink cartridges or check ink cartridge compatibility for your printer, go to HP Home & Home Office Store (US only), and then click Ink Toner & Paper .

If you are located outside of the US, follow these steps to purchase ink cartridges using HP SureSupply.

  1. Go to HP SureSupply .

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure that the country/region location is correct.

Genuine HP ink cartridges can also be purchased from other retailers.

Which ink cartridges you use might depend on your country/region. Follow these steps to purchase ink cartridges or check ink cartridge compatibility for your printer using HP SureSupply.

  1. Go to HP SureSupply .

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure that the country/region location is correct.

Replacing a cartridge

Follow these steps to replace a cartridge.

Step one: Load plain paper

Whenever you install a new cartridge, the product prompts you to load paper so that you can complete a cartridge alignment. Before you begin the alignment process, follow these steps to load paper in the product.

  1. Open the paper tray door.

  2. Pull out the paper tray, and then pull out the paper tray extension.

  3. Slide the paper guides to their outermost positions.

  4. Remove any paper from the paper tray if it is not the same as the paper that you want to load.

    NOTE: Loading different types of paper in the paper tray can cause paper jams.
  5. Load a stack of U.S. letter or A4 size paper into the paper tray with the short edge first and the print side down. Push the stack into the tray until it stops.

  6. Slide in the paper guides until they rest against the edges of the paper.

  7. Push the paper tray all the way into the product until it clicks into place.

    NOTE: Push the paper tray all the way in to avoid an error message.

Step two: Replace the cartridge

  1. If the product is off, press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product. Wait until the product is idle and silent before continuing.

  2. Grasp the handles on either side of the cartridge access door, and then raise the door until it locks into place. The carriage moves to the access area.

  3. Press the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.

  4. Pull the orange tab to remove the plastic wrap from the new cartridge.

    CAUTION: Make sure that you remove the orange pull-tab and plastic wrap completely before you twist the orange cap in the next step. Otherwise, ink might leak from the cartridge. When you remove the plastic wrap, the paper label on the top of the cartridge tears slightly, which is necessary to properly vent the cartridge.
  5. Remove the orange cap from the cartridge. Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it snaps off.

  6. With the nozzle and the contacts facing down, push the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it is firmly seated. Make sure that the color icon on the cartridge label matches the color icon on the slot.

  7. Repeat these steps to replace any other cartridges.

  8. Close the cartridge access door.
