Last Updated: 2012-03-30

When hard drives are attached to the embedded SCU ports in an HP Z420, Z620, or Z820 workstation, installing Linux in native EFI mode may fail.

If the user wishes to install and boot the OS in EFI mode, the user must change the state of the built-in storage controller's option ROM from legacy to EFI. If the option ROM state is not changed from its default state (legacy BIOS) after installation and prior to rebooting the installed Linux kernel, the system will hang after POST with a black screen and a blinking cursor.

  • HP Z420 Workstation
  • HP Z620 Workstation
  • HP Z820 Workstation
