HP PCs - HP Connected Music Powered by Meridian (Windows 8)

This document applies to HP computers with Windows 8.

With the HP Connected Music software application, you can listen to Internet radio, preview and buy tracks in the Meridian Store, listen to subscription music services, and play music files stored on your computer. Use this document to learn more about installing and using the HP Connected Music app.

Installing HP Connected Music

Use the following steps to install the HP Connected Music app and create a new account:

  1. Click the Connected Music app tile on the Start screen.

    The app opens on the Windows desktop.

  2. If a Windows Security Alert window appears, select the networks you want to allow HP Connected Music to use, and then click Allow access .

  3. On the Welcome to HP Connected Music screen, select your desired language from the language drop-down menu.

  4. Click the links to read the HP Connected Music Terms & Conditions and HP Connected Music Privacy Policy . When finished, select the check boxes, and then click Accept .

  5. On the Find Your Music screen, select the places you would like HP Connected Music to watch for music files.

    If the folder you would like to use does not appear on the Find Your Music screen, click Add a folder , browse to the folder location and select the desired folder, then click OK .

  6. After selecting all of the folders you want HP Connected Music to watch, click Continue . You can add or remove watched folders later, if desired.

  7. On the Login to Music Services screen, log in to any of the available services, or click Create Account to create new accounts with the subscription music services.

    You can choose to log in or create accounts with these services at any time after logging in to HP Connected Music.

  8. Click Continue .

  9. On the Start Using HP Connected Music screen, click sign up with your email address to create a new HP Connected Music account.

    Alternatively, you can log in using your Facebook, Twitter, or Google account.

  10. Fill out the Create Profile form, and then click OK .

  11. Log in to HP Connected Music using the email address and password you provided.

Using HP Connected Music

Use HP Connected Music to preview tracks, download music, listen to Internet radio, and more. To open the HP Connected Music app, click the app tile on the Start screen.

Configuring Preferences

On the HP Connected Music home screen, below your username, click Preferences . Click the following tabs to configure your preferences:

  • General : Use the General tab to configure General preferences, such as language and display options, and CD Import Preferences.

  • Folders : Use the Folders tab to begin watching, or to stop watching, music folders and applications. Watching a folder allows HP Connected Music to find music and album information from that folder, and add it to your Library.

  • Services : Use the Services tab to log in to different subscription music service accounts that you want to use in HP Connected Music.

Previewing tracks or albums with Audition Mode

Audition Mode allows you to play clips of songs before purchasing tracks or albums.

  • To preview an individual track, hover your mouse over the track, and then press the play button.

  • To open an entire album, click on a track or album art.

    The album information and track list appears. Click Preview Album to listen to clips of all the tracks, or click the play button next to a track to play a clip of an individual track.

Purchasing music

Use the following steps to add payment information to your account, and begin buying music from the Meridian Store:

  1. On the HP Connected Music home screen, click your username (or click the Edit Profile icon under your username) to open the Edit Profile window.

  2. Click Edit Purchasing Information .

  3. Click Add and follow the on-screen instructions to add a credit card to your account. Or, click Change Account and follow the on-screen instructions to use a 7Digital account instead.

  4. To buy an individual track, hover your mouse over the track, and then click Buy . Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.

  5. To buy an album, click the album art, and then click one of the Buy Album buttons. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.

  6. For more music browsing and purchasing options, open the Meridian Store by clicking Meridian Store in the panel on the right side of the screen.

Creating a playlist

Use the following steps to create, manage, and listen to a playlist:

  1. Click the plus (+) sign next to Playlists.

  2. Enter a name for the new playlist, and then click Save .

Right-click the playlist to see playlist options:

  • Click the Play button to begin playing the playlist, or click the plus (+ ) sign next to the play button to add the playlist to your queue.

  • Click the Mix button to play the playlist tracks in a random order, or click the plus (+ ) sign next to the mix button to add the tracks to your queue in a random order.

  • Click View to see the track list.

  • Click Delete , and then click Yes , to delete the playlist.

Adding music files to your Library

The HP Connected Music app automatically adds music from your watched folders to your Library. You can add more music to your Library by buying tracks from the Meridian Store, by dragging and dropping music files into the app window, or by importing a music CD. Use the following steps to import music from a CD:

  1. Insert a music CD into the CD/DVD drive in your computer.

  2. When the album title appears in the right panel, click Import to begin importing the music files.

  3. Wait for the album to finish importing, or click Cancel to stop the import process.

    The album is saved to your Library, and is also saved to your computer in the HP Connected Music folder.

    The album appears in the Recently Added section at the bottom of the app window. Click the album to see a track list and playback options.

Listening to Internet radio

To begin using Internet radio, first log in to your TuneIn Radio account, or sign up for an account using the following steps:

  1. In the left panel of the HP Connected Music home screen, click Preferences .

  2. Click Services .

  3. Next to the TuneIn listing, click Log in .

  4. The Set Up TuneInRadio window appears. If you already have a TuneIn Radio account, log in using your username and password. If you do not have a TuneIn Radio account, continue using these steps.

  5. Click Create Account .

  6. Fill out the form and click Create .

To listen to a radio channel, use the following steps:

  1. If you are in Audition Mode, click the x next to Exit Audition Mode before playing a radio channel.

  2. Click TuneIn Radio on the right panel of the home screen.

    The Radio home screen appears with Suggested Radio channels displayed.

  3. Click one of the categories in the left panel to view radio channels sorted by location, language, or other option.

  4. Click on a radio channel you want to listen to, and then click Play .

  5. To add a favorite radio station to your Radio Channels list, click the station and then click Add to library .

    The selected channel is added to the Radio Channels drop-down list in the right column.
