Advisory: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11) -Operating System Fails To Be Installed on Certain Smart Array Controllers When VID Is Enabled
NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2013-05-15

Last Updated: 2013-05-15

DESCRIPTION

On a ProLiant Gen8-series server configured with any Px2x series Smart Array controller, if the VID is enabled, the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) installer will automatically load the hpvsa driver because the VID is recognized as a Driver Update Disk (DUD).

The hpvsa DUD for SLES11 SP1/SP2 includes a legacy module.order file that directs the SLES11 installer to expect the hpsa driver to be on the DUD. In this case, the DUD is the VID. Since the hpsa driver is not on the hpvsa DUD, an hpsa driver does not get loaded. As a result, SLES 11 does not get installed as expected because the system cannot recognize the Hard Disk Drive (HDD).

SCOPE

Any ProLiant Gen8-series server configured with any Px2x series Smart Array Controller and attempting to install SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SLES 11).
