DESCRIPTION

A Kernel panic may occur on an HP ProLiant server attempting an installation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 if the HP SC08e Host Bus Adapter or HP MSA P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array is configured in "multipath" mode.

This has been observed when performing either of the following:

  • Upgrading from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8 (using multipath) to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 (using multipath) when Boot From SAN (BFS) is used.
  • Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 (using multipath) when BFS is used.

This has not been observed when upgrading from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8 (using multipath) to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 (using multipath) and booting from an internal (local) drive.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant server attempting an installation or an upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9 if the HP SC08e Host Bus Adapter or HP MSA P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array is configured in "multipath" mode.

This also affects servers when using HP Insight Control server deployment.

RESOLUTION

This only occurs when the HP SC08e Host Bus Adapter or HP MSA P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array is configured in "multipath" mode.

HP and Red Hat are investigating this issue.

This advisory will be updated when additional information is available.
