HP ProBook 4525s Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Switch Cover

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the switch cover for the HP ProBook 4525s Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver.

Parts required

NOTE: Part numbers are subject to change.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the switch cover that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

Switch cover removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

  2. Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove battery

  3. Remove the three 2.5 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screws in the battery bay that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.

  4. Remove the two rubber screw covers from the corners of the rear of the notebook.

  5. Remove the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws from the corners of the rear of the notebook that secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.

  6. Turn the notebook right side up and open the display fully.

  7. Slide the switch cover toward the rear of the notebook.

  8. Remove the switch cover from the top cover.

Switch cover replacement

  1. Place the switch cover onto the top cover and align the sides and hinge cut outs with the sides and hinges of the notebook.

  2. Press down on the switch cover and slide it toward the center of the notebook until it is fully seated.

  3. Close the display and turn the notebook upside down.

  4. Replace the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws into the corners of the rear of the notebook to secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.

  5. Replace the two rubber screw covers into the corners of the rear of the notebook.

  6. Replace the three 2.5 mm P1 Phillips broad-head screws into the battery bay to secure the switch cover to the base enclosure.
