On an HP ProLiant server with Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3), HP System Management Homepage (SMH) and HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) may intermittently report that the iLO 3 status is "Not Responding" even though all the features of iLO 3 are functioning normally.

This generally occurs after iLO 3 is reset due to a firmware update or a manual reset. When iLO 3 is rebooted, it is unavailable for approximately 30 to 60 seconds. During this time, the Insight Agents do not receive a response from iLO 3 within the allotted and then report the error to SMH and HP SIM.

SCOPE

Any HP ProLiant server with Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) Firmware Version 1.28 (or earlier) and running HP ProLiant iLO 3 Management Controller Driver Package for Windows Server 2008 Version 3.3.0.0.

RESOLUTION

The Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) "Not Responding" status in HP System Management Homepage and HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) is false and can be ignored. The features of iLO 3 are functioning normally.

This is corrected by upgrading iLO 3 to Firmware Version 1.50 (or later) AND the iLO 3 Channel Interface Driver for Windows to Version 3.4.0.0 (or later).

Perform the following steps to obtain the latest iLO 3 firmware version:

  1. Click on the following link:

    http://www.hp.com/support/iLO3

  2. Select the appropriate Windows Server operating system.
  3. Click on "Firmware - Lights-Out Management."
  4. Locate, download, and install iLO 3 Firmware Version 1.50 (or later).

Perform the following steps to obtain the latest iLO 3 Channel Interface Driver for Windows:

  1. Click on the following link:

    http://www.hp.com/support/iLO3

  2. Select the appropriate Windows Server operating system.
  3. Click on "Driver - System Management."
  4. Locate, download, and install HP ProLiant iLO 3/4 Channel Interface Driver for Windows Version 3.4.0.0 (or later).

To clear the false message, reset iLO 3 by performing the following steps:

  1. Log into the iLO 3 web interface.
  2. Select the Diagnostics option on the Information tab.
  3. Click on the Reset button.
